THE STORY OF
TSHEPONG CENTRE

(Place of Hope)

Mobirise

(CCIA)

In 2002 Combined Churches in Action (CCIA) engaged in a Community Development programme in Clarens, in the townships of Kgubetswana and Kanana. With contributions from the local community and business in and around Clarens, we were successful in building a haven for these children in 2010, called Tshepong.

CCIA is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO 044-650) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO 930016906).

The Centre is managed on a permanent basis by Thomas and Sarah Thaele, who live in the township.

Following generous donations received from locals and outsiders we were successful in recently building an Arts Centre which accommodates more structured ballet and dancing training as well as formal art classes and choir practice.

The Counselling containers were the first to appear on the site.
The single Play Therapy room was in such demand that we developed a second and have recently completed a third.
Currently three primary schools send children for a series of twelve one-hour sessions.

We have four trained play therapists who are working with over thirty children.
That translates to almost 400 hours per quarter!

Our aim is to equip the children to take their place in society with pride and confidence.

We are working gradually but determinedly towards an increased ownership and leadership by the township people whom we serve.

Tshepong has become the centre for many activities related to CCIA.
It is also increasingly being used and accepted as a community centre by other organisations.
